Our Story

How We Got Started
The last shop in the village of Capel Dewi went many years ago and since then the inhabitants have had to travel for their daily supplies. During 2012 Dolen Dewi, the local community association, decided that they wanted to do something about this and took the initiative to re-open a shop but this time as a community run shop. The main aim was to develop a small “convenience store” for the village, run by the village.
Dolen Dewi ihas been supported in this project by the Plunkett Foundation which is an organisation that supports the development of such shops all over the UK and who have so far helped 300 of these projects to get going. Their help was greatly appreciated in assisting Dolen Dewi to win a grant from the Big Lottery Village SOS fund, which allows from the employment of two part-time project coordinators to get Siop Gymunedol Capel Dewi Community Shop up and running.
SIOP DEWI opened on 2nd April 2013 and goes from strength to strength, increasing the choice of stock and services offered all the time.
Ein Stori
Fe gaeodd y siop ddiwetha’ yng Nghapel Dewi nifer o flynyddoedd yn ôl ac ers hynny mae trigolion y pentre’ wedi gorfod teithio ar gyfer nwyddau dyddiol. Yn ystod 2012 penderfynodd Dolen Dewi, y gymdeithas gymunedol leol, eu bod am wneud rhywbeth am hyn, a phenderfynwyd ail-agor siop yn y pentre’, ond y tro hwn fel siop a redir gan y gymuned. Y prif nod oedd datblygu “siop nwyddau” bach ar gyfer y pentre’, a redir gan y pentre’.
Mae Dolen Dewi wedi cael ei gefnogi yn y prosiect hwn gan Sefydliad Plunkett, sefydliad sy’n cefnogi datblygiad siopau o’r fath ar draws y DU ac sydd erbyn hyn wedi cynorthwyo 300 o brosiectau. Fe werthfawrogwn yr help cawsom wrth y sefydliad wrth gynorthwyo Dolen Dewi i ennill grant Pentref SOS Y Gronfa Loteri Fawr, sy’n caniatáu i ni gyflogi dau gydlynydd prosiect rhan-amser er mwyn sefydlu a helpu gyda rhediad Siop Gymunedol Capel Dewi Community Shop i gychwyn.
Agorodd SIOP DEWI ar Ebrill yr 2il 2013, ac mae’n mynd o nerth i nerth, wrth i’r amrywiaeth o stoc a’r gwasanaethau a gynigir gynyddu.
